Health Detection Program

Where Does Your Money Go?

Money raised from the Walk for Health, our local fight against Breast Cancer stays right here in our community providing care through our Health Detection program. The Health Detection program provides women and men who do not have medical insurance or who have inadequate insurance the necessary breast health diagnostic care they need for no cost. This includes all screening services including mammograms, ultra sounds and biopsies.

The Health Detection program was created after we found a gap of service to women and men under 40. Currently there are programs in place providing this service to the over 40 population. With numbers on the rise, this program fills this gap. In fact, because of the support of our local community, we are saving lives!

Early detection of breast Cancer is the key to positive, long-lasting outcomes. Today we are proud to report in 2007 we provided more than 1,000 diagnostic services to nearly 500 women. Of this 61 need biopsies each costing $1,000 - $3,000 per person. We need this walk to be successful so we can continue this vital program.

Last year...
417 women had breast exams
149 women had mammograms
308 women had ultrasounds
61 women had biopsies

65 women had surgical consultations
2 women diagnosed with breast Cancer

NOTE: This number might change due to women still being served who enrolled in 2007.

The Foundation for Community and Family Health is funding this multi-faceted Program through money raised by our annual breast Cancer walk. The success of this Program depends on joint partnership efforts with local authorized medical providers in Corona and Norco. Working together, significant steps will be made in educating women about the benefits of screening and early detection.

The Health Detection Program strives to combat breast Cancer by expanding the number of screenings for breast Cancer in the Inland Empire and increasing access to quality Cancer detection and treatment services for women in our community.

By the time you finish reading this, another women will be diagnosed with breast Cancer.

Early diagnosis is the key to surviving breast Cancer.
